One Rod Window

fiat punto window wiper thing...? please help ..UK?
right so i have a fiat punto 2002 and there is a problem with the window wiper, i dont now the correct part but i will try my best to explain. the window wiper 'rods' under the bonnet that are connected to the motor...there isnt any screw or bolt (what evers needed) at the joint of the window wiper. so ive had to use plastic tie things to hold it together which keeps snaping.
ive been places today to ask about it and they said that i will have to buy the whole new motor and everything which i think they are trying to conn me so im not doing that as i only want to now what the screw/bolt is called and where can i get one from like a everday store or something like B&Q maybe?
thanks to all that answer...please answer because i feel paranoid driving the car because it stops working on main roads and everything
lol

I'm afraid "they" are right - the connecting rods (from the motor-drive crank to the wiper arm(s) rely on ball joints which provide ample freedom of movement. To remove a rod use a strong screw driver or similar flat tool to snap the rods free. While doing that, do not load the crank, motor or arm(s) - use a pair of pliers to hold the parts steady.
Your best option is to tour the car salvage points in your area - with some luck you'll find a car like yours with working wipers mechanism - it will likely keep working for the next few years. Removing it shouldn't be a big deal. Otherwise, a new set is required (in some car makes the motor-drive can be bought separately - important because it tends to be expensive).
